Important information for the 2020 MN VOA trip to Itasca State Park:Due to the pandemic, Douglas Lodge is closed this year so our schedule will be a little bit different than years past. Things to bring:Your Viper with a full tank of gas
A mask
Sheets, blankets, bedspread, pillow and/or sleeping bad, along with personal towels and kitchen towels. Itasca State Park will provide a mattress cover that is properly cleaned per Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) guidelines but will not be providing linen service. The beds are Queen size.
Breakfast treats and coffee as the only food service in the park is pre-ordered boxed food. There are coffee makers in the suites. Lunches will also be on your own, so you can either bring extra food for lunch or go into Park Rapids to eat at a restaurant or fast food. If you’d like to get pre-ordered food the website is below and you can call 1-218-699-7217 to order. https://files.dnr.state...._lodge_menu_updated.pdf.
It is recommended that you purchase your daily vehicle permits prior to arrival at the park, which may be done through the following web site. Choose "Purchase an entry permit online" (You will need to create an account to make the purchase). You will then receive an e-mail with your permits attached. https://www.dnr.state.mn.../state_parks/permit.html
Beverages, adult or otherwise for evening socials.
Weekend Schedule:
There will be two (2) meet points for our cruise to Itasca State Park. Meet at the Maple Grove Perkins between 9:30 and 10:00, or at the Holiday Station Store in Becker between 10:30 and 10:45 for Explore Minnesota '20.
Maple Grove Perkins (9:30 - 10:00) 11801 73rd Ave. N. (SE corner of Hemlock Lane and 73rd Ave, just south of I-694) Maple Grove, MN 55369 763-424-2020
Holiday Station Store (10:30 - 10:45) 14740 165th Ave. (corner of US Hwy 10 & 165th Ave. SE Becker, MN 55308 763-263-7550
Lunch Friday is at Breezy Point
Arrive in Itasca State Park ~ 4 PM and check in
Dinner Friday night will be pizza that will be provided by the club along with stimulating conversation and possibly a few adult beverages. It is with great sorrow that we announce the official drink of MN VOA, the Canadian Margarita is trapped in Canada due to the border closure.
Saturday morning is free time to visit the headwaters, cruise the wilderness drive, hike, bike, visit the fire tower or just relax.
Saturday afternoon ~1:30 PM we hope to rent several pontoon boats (weather permitting) and cruise Lake Itasca for an hour.
After the lake cruise Mitch Janusch will lead us on a Viper cruise through the North Woods which will culminate with dinner at The Good Life Café in downtown Park Rapids where we have reserved the party room for proper social distancing. If you’d like to check their menu prior to that evening the link is below: https://www.thegoodlifecafepr.com/
After dinner on Saturday night we will have our usual Viper club social time with adult drinks and the usual shenanigans.
Sunday morning we check out of the Suites and return home at your leisure.
